As part of the New Museum’s Festival of Ideas for the New City May 4-8, 2011, Artists Alliance is pleased to announce its 15th annual building-wide open studios on May 7th and 8th. During this exciting event, contemporary artists will open their Lower East Side studios, providing a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to see a wide range of artwork on display in the artists’ own studios. Additionally, this offers the public a rare look into the artists’ creative process with the artists present to answer questions. All conveniently located within the same building, the artwork viewable during the open studios will present a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, printmaking, works on paper, photography, installation, video and new media. Artworks will also be available for sale.

Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Education Center
DIRECTIONS: f, j, m, z, train to Delancey/Essex St. Walk two blocks east to Suffolk Street. Building is located between Rivington and Delancey with entrance on Suffolk.

At CUCHIFRITOS as part of Festival of Ideas for the New City is the opening reception of Dust to Settle on Saturday May 7, 4 – 6.30pmfeaturing Jane Benson, Nicole Cherubini, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Ellen Harvey, Jason Hedges, Michael Mahalchick, Robert Melee, Clive Murphy, curated by artist Diana Shpungin. Also open on Sunday, May 8 from 12 – 6pm the exhibition will be on view until June 26, 2011
The Festival of Ideas for the New City, May 4-8, 2011, is a major new collaborative initiative in New York involving scores of Downtown organizations working together to harness the power of the creative community to imagine the future city and explore ideas that will shape it. The Festival will include a three-day slate of symposia; an innovative StreetFest along the Bowery; and over eighty independent projects and public events.
