Rachel Frank

“The Lower East Side has an electric magnetism that has always attracted and inspired me: There is the hum of the traditional working class immigrant neighborhood, the innovative energy of artists and writers making it their studios, and the more recent influx of nightlife and trendiness all drawing in a variety of people from all social, economic and cultural groups.”
Through sculpture and performance, my work has maintained thematic elements of man, animal, and loss using geometry, mirror, and fabric. Often using mirrors and reflective surfaces as imaginary or potentially infinite spaces and exploring the fantastic with part man and part animal characters, I wish to suggest a disruption in the cosmic order of things– a reminder of the chaos lurking under the façade of reality.
