Sweety’s Radio: Edición Especial kicks off with the work of Cecilia Gentili. In an exhibition that brings together images, objects, and oral herstories that collectively speak of the impact of Gentili’s work as a mentor and muse, as well as the importance of community and agency in the documentation of trans-femme realities. The installation includes selections from an ongoing photo essay made in collaboration with artist Serena Jara, and wearable garments made by Gogo Graham for Cecilia. Bridging the works are videos of Gentili’s storytelling, a practice that she has harvested as a tool for healing and instigating dialogue, and which informs her work as a counselor to other trans individuals seeking guidance.
This project is the first installment of Sweety’s Radio: Edición Especial, on view through July 30, 2017.
Cecilia Gentili, originally from Argentina, worked at the LGBT Center, Apicha CHC and currently serves as the Director of Public Affairs at GMHC. She was a contributor to Trans Bodies Trans Selves and is a board member at Translatina Network. That’s for work. For fun, she acts sometimes and loves doing storytelling events where she talks about her life experiences and she cooks amazing brunches for her friends on the weekends. She is very passionate about advocating for her community, and mostly for transgender women with a Latino background, sex work history, drug use and incarceration history.
